NIGHTS OUT: A Manuscript of Short Fiction

Night Shot

An airline passenger on a routine flight to Denver is brutally pulled out of line and searched. An American financier fights for his life in a Mexican bar. A young woman pursues old ghosts among movie stars on the Santa Monica pier. A teenage coke dealer scraps with a professional wrestler. A mourner leaps off a catastrophically high bridge, only to live a long, strange life.

Rivers and oceans trail through these stories, all of them freezing the lives of characters in a single night out. Old women and young boys step out of the home they know well and into enormous space. Nights Out is about the impossible need for connection and understanding, the magic of human touch when it lands and the heart-splinters when it doesn't. Inside the lives they thought they’d mapped completely, the characters in this collection find dark, undiscovered acres.
